Washington Little Capitals Welcome Ian Voit as Director of Player Personnel and 16U Associate Head Coach
The Washington Little Capitals are excited to announce Ian Voit as the organization’s new Director of Player Personneland Associate Head Coach of the 16U team, a key hire aimed at strengthening the organization’s talent identification and recruitment efforts. Voit will play a central role in building WLC’s 15O, 16U, and 18U teams.
Hockey runs deep in the Voit family. His father, the former skating coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL), instilled in him a deep understanding of elite-level hockey fundamentals, training methods, and player development from the earliest stages. 3 of Ians brothers played junior hockey- Lars played in the GOJHL, Lear in the BCHL, and Ty in the OHL and was drafted into the NHL, giving him firsthand experience in developing players who reach the highest levels of the game.
Beyond his family, Voit trains many of the top players across Pittsburgh’s AAA programs, providing individualized skill development, power skating, and performance training for elite youth players. His knowledge of the game and proven ability to identify and develop talent make him a highly sought-after recruiter and mentor.
“My goal is to help build WLC’s elite teams by identifying top talent and providing players with the guidance, development, and opportunities they need to reach the next level,” said Voit. “I focus on the complete athlete — not just skills, but character, preparation, and hockey IQ — so that each player can maximize their potential on and off the ice.”
In his role, Voit will serve as a key advocate for players, actively fostering connections, opportunities, and pathways for athletes while ensuring WLC fields competitive, high-performing teams at the 15O, 16U, and 18U levels.
“Ian is an elite recruiter and developer of young talent,” said Executive Director Mike Donnellan. “His ability to recruit players with potential and help them grow on and off the ice is exactly what our program needs as we build nationally competitive teams. Ian trains some of the best young players in Pittsburgh across multiple AAA programs, and his family ties to elite hockey — including his father’s experience as the skating coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins — give him unique insight into the pathways players need to succeed. Ian will be instrumental in strengthening our upper-level programs and ensuring WLC remains a destination for elite hockey in the DMV.
Voit joins WLC with a commitment to cultivating high-performing teams and developing players who can compete at the highest levels. From all of us in the WLC family, Welcome, Ian!
