Washington Little Capitals Announce Caleb Perez as 26-27 Peewee Major Head Coach

The Washington Little Capitals are proud to announce the appointment of Caleb Perez as the club’s new Peewee Major Head Coach and another accomplished player, educator, and mentor to the organization’s coaching staff. This upcoming season will mark Perez’s third year with the Washington Little Capitals. He joined the organization as an assistant coach with the 18U team in his first season before serving as the 2013 Head Coach last year. Originally from Northern New York, Perez developed his love for the game playing youth hockey for the St. Lawrence Thunder before continuing his career at Stanstead College in Quebec, one of the premier prep school hockey programs in North America. He then advanced to Junior A hockey with the Smiths Falls Bears of the Central Canada Hockey League, where he continued to develop his game against top competition.

Perez went on to play four seasons of NCAA Division III hockey at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. During his collegiate career, he earned the Andrew Noel III Award, presented annually to the Bowdoin men’s hockey player who best represents the program’s highest standards of commitment, preparation, perseverance, and character, while demonstrating a deep concern for team, community, and the common good.

Following his playing career, Perez transitioned into coaching and education at Berkshire School, one of the most elite prep school hockey programs in the country. While at Berkshire, he served as a teacher, dorm parent, and assistant coach for the boys’ varsity hockey program. In his role on the coaching staff, Perez worked closely with defensemen while overseeing key areas such as the penalty kill and faceoffs.

During his time at Berkshire, Perez played an important role in the development of numerous players who advanced to junior hockey as well as NCAA Division I and Division III programs, continuing the school’s long tradition of producing high-level student-athletes.

“Caleb brings tremendous experience as both a player and coach, but just as importantly he brings the character and professionalism that we value in our program,” said Mike Donnellan. “His background in elite prep school hockey and his commitment to developing young players make him a fantastic member of our staff.” Perez is eager to take on the challenge of leading the Peewee Major group and establishing a standard that will push the team forward. “I’m incredibly motivated to help transform the Peewee Major team and build a culture that is centered on player development, accountability, and winning,” said Perez. “This is a group that has a lot of potential, and my goal is to push them out of their comfort zones every day. We want to create an environment where players are challenged, supported, and expected to compete at a high level while developing the habits that will help them succeed long-term.”

Perez joins a Washington Little Capitals staff that continues to grow in experience and professionalism, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to providing one of the most elite development environments in youth hockey.”
