Mike Donnellan named next Executive Director of the Washington Little Caps
The WLC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mike Donnellan will officially assume the role of Executive Director and Hockey Director for the Washington Little Capitals at the end of this season when Doug Plocki steps down.
Mike has been instrumental in revamping the WLC since taking over as Hockey Director in April. Most notably, Mike has instituted an effective and improved system of play throughout the club and has increased the weekly training and developmental structure that features more ice touches, workouts, and video sessions. Mike has also added depth to the WLC this season by building an additional 18U team. The Club is very confident in Mike’s ability to effectively lead the WLC into the future.
Plocki has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication during his tenure as Executive Director, and his vision will continue to inspire the WLC as we grow into an elite and nationally relevant program. Plocki will remain with the WLC as a consultant. The Club will continue to benefit from his commitment to player development and deep connections to USA Hockey and programs across the sport.
“It’s been a privilege to be associated with the Little Caps for the last 16 years,” said Plocki. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with some extraordinary young men and women, great coaches, and so many great people associated with this sport. But other opportunities within the sport have arisen and, with Mike’s arrival, the timing is right to make a change.”
I’ve been working with Mike these past several months to ensure a smooth transition and have seen the passion and professionalism that will serve this Club well in the future. The Little Caps organization is in good hands. I look forward to seeing it flourish under Mike’s leadership.”
Donnelan’s future vision for the Little Caps includes some exciting developments. WLC is currently pursuing the addition of a 14U girls team that could play their first games as soon as the 2025-2026 season! Official announcements will be made shortly regarding tryouts, coaches, and rink plans for the 25′-26′ season and beyond. Let’s Go Caps!
